Just goes to show how bad my timing was but despite having only just joined Tumblr, I’ll be leaving it almost straightaway. Hopefully, only until late May once my exams are over though. Still on Twitter, MyAnimeList, Facebook, etc. though (Tumblr is the site that sucks up the most of my time in one go, too addicted to reblogging evidently).
Recently, everyone became aware that artists on 2chan were getting really fucking pissed because people were reposting their art everywhere. I’ll put aside my opinion of 2chan for the moment because something good came out of it: people either sourced items, or they stopped reblogging items that the artists may not have wanted posted.
Nah, I’m kidding. Maybe two people did that, and everyone else continued their bullshittery while reblogging unsourced work and yanking shit off Pixiv because they like to talk morality and then pillage pixiv accounts like a bunch of little hypocrites.
I could continue talking about how my faith in humanity has long been lost since I looked upon the face of tumblr, but I’ll save you the trouble and do this.
HOW TO SOURCE
zerochan is not a source. Ever.
“I found this on LJ! It was in this post!” This is not a source. This is bullshit. Give a link, an artist, preferably both. Even if the post was made forever ago, a quick comment with “who drew that???” will probably get you a response and a source. Smarten the hell up. And if all else fails, link back to the god damn post you yanked the picture from. It’s not that hard.
Photobucket is not a source. It’s as bad as zerochan.
If you don’t know the source, use this nifty little site called “SAUCENAO.” You simply post the picture to the website, and it will try to match it to work on Pixiv. There’s even an add-on for firefox and chrome so you can right click and search! Hint: It’s not that fucking hard and takes less than 10 seconds. If you can’t find it in you to use it, then you’re a lazy fuck who needs to get off the computer and do something with your life
No source? ask for help. Or don’t post it. You know, either way.
There’s a box above the tags when you post on tumblr. It says “content source.” Use it and abuse it. It needs your love. Considering how many tags you people use every time you post, I am astounded that so few of you have found it.
Also, as maiyeng pointed out, “You can also source back a pic by dragging and dropping the art in the google image search bar! :)”
WHY TO SOURCE
People want to find the artist
The artist gets proper credit
The artist doesn’t get pissed and delete their pixiv in retaliation
People can find similar artwork, and potentially get the artist to make more because of positive feedback
So you don’t look like a massive douchebag
I like to think of it this way:
When in doubt, leave it out.
Ask for help, or don’t post. Don’t be that person.
Tumblr dashboard, I have a massive screen, why won’t you let me use it to its full extent?!
No seriously, there should be an easier, faster way to view the dash. Like, integrate masonry or something. Or have a quick archive-like view. Especially for when my internet decides to semi-die and I’m left with almost negligible speed.
